From the first observation of a natural form through to the final handcrafted piece, each stage is carefully refined to transform inspiration into timeless architectural lighting.
Observation
seeing nature, understanding form
Every design begins with observation.
The Conche draws inspiration from the flowing geometry and layered structure of the conch shell. Rather than replicating nature directly, the intention is to capture its movement, balance, and organic growth through light.
By studying natural forms, patterns emerge that become the foundation for each sculptural piece.
CONCEPT SKETCH
IDEAS TAKE SHAPE
Ideas begin on paper.
Through sketching, proportions, movement, and visual balance are explored before any engineering takes place. This stage allows the design to evolve naturally, with each iteration refining the relationship between form, light, and space.
The goal is not simply to create a light fitting, but to create a sculptural object that feels alive.
DIGITAL DESIGN
TRANSFORMING CONCEPTS INTO FORM
The chosen concept is carefully recreated in a digital environment.
Every curve, angle, and proportion is refined using advanced 3D modelling software. This process allows the design to be evaluated from every perspective while ensuring structural integrity and visual harmony.
Precision engineering meets artistic intention.
Engineering & Printing
Precision In Every Detail
Each component is engineered to accommodate lighting, wiring, structural strength, and assembly.
The design is converted into machine instructions and produced on a large-format RatRig 3D
printer.
Hand Finishing
Craftsmanship In Every Component
Every printed part is carefully cleaned, sanded, refined, and assembled by hand. LED components
are fitted, wiring concealed, and each element checked for quality and consistency.
Final Piece
Bringing Light To Life
The completed piece is assembled, illuminated, and tested over time. Only when the design proves
both visually beautiful and structurally reliable does it become part of the Derisly Design collection.
